A pallet shuttle is an automated, standalone, high density pallet storage solution that employs self-propelled shuttle carts to move pallets backward or forward in a racking lane. Shuttles are powered by onboard electric motors and travel along tracks inside a storage lane.
When storing products, a forklift puts pallets in the first slot in a lane and the shuttle cart transports the load back to the furthest available slot in the rack until the lane is entirely loaded. When pulling pallets, unit loads are collected from their location by the shuttle cart and transported to the rack face to be picked by a forklift.
Pallet shuttle installations are perfect for high throughput warehouses and allow workers to automatically store and collect pallets using a truck mounted transmitter or integration with a warehouse management system.
Maximize Warehouse Storage Density
Warehouse operators gain significant benefits from deep lane AS/RS systems via additional storage capacity inside their buildings. Fewer forklift aisles are necessary, meaning a good portion of that aisle space is made available for storage. Carriage mounted sensors allow shuttles to deposit unit loads as close together as possible, making the most of storage space inside each lane. Vertical storage capacity is also enhanced because shuttles require very little clearance between levels.
Improve Warehouse Efficiency and Safety
There are more benefits to shuttle systems than just added capacity. Performance goes off the charts because forklift operators no longer have to travel to individual aisles–each pallet is loaded or retrieved from a single rack face. This substantially lowers typical loading and unloading times. Accordingly, it can allow a smaller forklift fleet, and more importantly, slash labor costs because not as many workers are required.
By reducing forklift travel, you also lower your exposure to accidents. Less forklift travel means fewer damaged forklifts and racks, less product loss and fewer safety incidents or injuries.
Raymond Radioshuttle
Raymond’s Radioshuttle solution is one of the most advanced pallet shuttle options available. As the originator of pallet shuttle solutions close to 30 years ago, Radioshuttle features industry leading shuttle speeds and a battery life of 8-14 hours, depending on system design. Radioshuttle automation systems are also extraordinarily reliable and durable—some systems installed as far back as 1990 are still in service today!
Radioshuttle units can handle weights of up to 3,900 pounds. And for extreme conditions or cold storage applications, Radioshuttle is an excellent choice. The equipment functions faithfully in temperatures from -22 to +104 degrees Fahrenheit.
