A career as a forklift technician comes with several benefits, such as competitive pay and work-life balance. Welch Equipment is currently hiring for forklift technicians and we provide some of the best benefits in the industry. But what does it take to become a forklift technician? Here are a few things to know if you are considering a career as a forklift technician.

Experience, Skills, and Qualifications

There are several industries that translate well into a career as a forklift technician. Many of our technicians come from the automotive or aviation industries and find that they can make better money as a forklift technician in the material handling industry.

Basic mechanical knowledge is necessary to become a forklift technician. Automotive knowledge and understanding of electric, hydraulic, and combustion engines is definitely a plus, as well as most other workplace experience. If you possess an ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification, that will also give you an advantage.

Just starting out or recently graduated from a trade school? Many of our road technicians begin as shop technicians, where they learn the ropes and are trained by some of our most skilled technicians.

Welch also requires an insurable driving record for our field technicians.

Training

Welch Equipment has our own in-house training department that educates our technicians on the equipment we service. Since we service a wide range of equipment (electric forklifts, high-capacity forklifts, aerial lifts, and more), we work closely with our manufacturers to ensure that our technicians are up to date on training. We will also provide you with any specialty tools you may need.
